Hospitals have also learned that they are often losing money on each implant case, due to runaway implant expenses. Physicians have developed long-standing relationships with vendor sales reps and their companies, and may be resistant to change. But knowing implant costs are too high and must be brought under control, and then doing something about it, are tasks that may exceed the reach of an organization on its own.

These are challenges we are accustomed to meeting successfully. Clinical Benchmarking consultants are successful in working with physicians to control and reduce implant supply costs while ensuring quality outcomes for patients.  We are experienced and we get results.

PPI share of hospital expense
National studies have shown that IDN implants account for 22 percent of the hospital's total supply expense.  Hospital executives have been surprised to learn that these physician preference items -- for TJR, spine and cardiac devices -- actually cost the hospital as much as the total pharmaceuticals dispensed annually, or 23 percent of total supply expense.  That's a national statistic and is probably reflected in your own hospital or system's supply expense data.
