Cost Reduction -- Total Joint and
Spinal Fusion Implants
McLaren Health System, Flint, MI
McLaren engaged Clinical Benchmarking, LLC, consultants Girard F.
Senn and Catherine Whitten to develop both a total joint and spine
implant contracting strategy for their seven-hospital system in
southeast Michigan. We coordinated the data collection and analysis
to develop a sourcing agreement that has saved the system 25
percent on its implant pricing. Girard and Cathy worked
within the system's culture to develop constructs acceptable to
their surgeons, so as to obtain their support for the system-wide
purchase agreement.
St. Rose Dominican Hospitals, a member of CHW, Henderson, NV
CHW St. Rose's three hospitals engaged Clinical Benchmarking to
develop a unified total joint and spine-implant contracting
strategy. CB consultants coordinated the data collection and
analysis, led surgeon negotiations and vendor negotiations,
ultimately developing a sourcing agreement that has saved
the hospitals $2.2 million on spine implants and $6 million on total
joints.
Catholic Healthcare Partners, Cincinnati, OH
Catholic Healthcare Partners (CHP), a 23-hospital system, asked
Clinical Benchmarking, LLC, to perform a system-wide price
comparison for cardiac, spine and total joint implants. The
engagement required us to understand each facility's unique practice
patterns and conduct detailed purchase history analyses. The result
-- more than $26 million in savings opportunities have been
identified. We continue to provide support to execute
local strategy and to act as a resource for the system's office.
